BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 29. Wheat farmers have recently received substantial payments totaling 30 trillion rials (about $51.2 million) that were made to farmers in exchange for their wheat.
Data obtained by Trend from the Targeted Subsidies Management Organization (TSO) of Iran show the total payments to wheat producers reached about $256 million from April 5 through May 28.
In this timeframe, Iran procured in excess of 2.24 million
metric tons of wheat from agricultural producers under assured
contractual obligations, signifying a 26 percent uptick relative to
the corresponding period in the previous fiscal year.
This year, the agronomic landscape of Iran saw wheat cultivation
extend over an expanse of 6.39 million hectares, partitioned into
4.22 million hectares allocated for irrigated systems and 2.17
million hectares designated for rain-fed agricultural
practices.
In the context of the prevailing agricultural cycle spanning from
March 21, 2025, to March 20, 2026, the governing body has
established a fixed remuneration for bread wheat at 205,000 rials
(approximately $0.38) per kilogram, while durum wheat is pegged at
210,000 rials (around $0.39) per kilogram, thereby fortifying a
consistent safety net for domestic cultivators.
