BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 3. The latest data obtained by Trend from Iran’s Statistical Center indicates that significant price hikes have been recorded in various agricultural and food products in the second month of the current Iranian year (from April 21 through May 21, 2025) compared to the same month of the previous year (from April 20 through May 20, 2024).
The highest increases were noted for lemons, which surged by 166 percent, followed by apples at 94.3 percent, bananas at 89.5 percent, butter at 86.8 percent, and oranges at 82 percent.
The price of lemons reached 1.27 million rials per kilogram (around $2.02), apples cost 868,000 rials (around $1.38) per kilogram, bananas were priced at 1.56 million rials (around $2.49) per kilogram, 100 grams of butter sold for 607,000 rials (around $0.96), and oranges were valued at 632,000 rials (around $1) per kilogram.
Additionally, the cost of Iranian rice increased by 69.5 percent, reaching 1.97 million rials per kilogram, outpacing imported rice, which rose by 35.3 percent to 826,000 rials per kilogram. Lamb and beef prices also increased by 19.9 percent to 7.42 million rials (around $11.8), and 9.6 percent to 6.08 million rials (around $9.7) respectively.
Iran produces over 130 million tons of agricultural products annually, yet inflationary pressures continue to impact food costs significantly.
