BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 3. The transit of products through Iran increased by 36.5 percent in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024) compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022, through March 20, 2022), Iran's Customs Administration said, Trend reports.
Product transit through Iran was 17.8 million tons in the last Iranian year.
During the last Iranian year, the transit of products was mainly through the 10 customs of Iran. Thus, about 88 percent of the products were transited through these 10 customs.
In this period, the majority of product transit was through the customs post located in Shahid Rajaee Special Economic Zone. Thus, 5.17 million tons of products were transited through this customs office. This is 9.36 percent more than a year earlier.
A total of 3.95 million tons of products were transported through Parvizkhan customs last year. The transit of products through this customs office increased by 368 percent compared to the previous year.
About 1.94 million tons of products were transited through Iran's Bashmaq Customs last year. This is 57 percent more than the year before.
Additionally, about 1.19 million tons were transported through Bazargan customs in Iran last year, 723,000 tons through Sarakhs customs, 674,000 tons through Bilasuvar customs, 549,000 tons through Astara customs, 542,000 tons through Julfa customs, 482,000 tons through Lengeh port customs, and 456,000 tons of products were transported through the customs of the special economic zone.
To note, Iran is located on several international transit routes (North-South International Corridor, East-West International Corridor). Nevertheless, the infrastructure on the trajectory of these routes passing through the country is not fully sufficient, the territory of Iran is not considered a reliable route for international freight companies, and international sanctions have been applied against this country. On this basis, international companies are not interested in transiting through Iran.
