BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 20. Iran's production capacity at the Iran-Qatar joint South Pars phase 13 gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) has risen by 1.7 million cubic meters per day, a representative of Iran's Pars Oil and Gas Company, Hamidreza Masoudi, told reporters, Trend reports.

Masoudi shared that one well has been successfully commissioned in the 13th administration as part of this effort.

Masoudi emphasized that the South Pars gas field produces a significant portion of the country's energy supply. Therefore, the field is implementing advanced strategies to increase its gas production capacity.

He also highlighted that the development of the South Pars gas field is crucial to achieving the objectives set by the Iranian Ministry of Oil and the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC). In this context, the drilling and commissioning of 35 wells is a priority, and it is expected to play a key role in meeting the country’s gas demands.

The company official further explained that despite international sanctions and restrictions on Iran, efforts are underway to utilize drilling rigs and take complex measures to improve and restore some of the existing wells. These wells are expected to be brought online as per the planned schedule.

The South Pars gas field (North Dome in Qatar) is a joint Iran-Qatar gas field. It is reported that gas reserves in this field amount to 51 trillion cubic meters, of which 36 trillion cubic meters can be produced. Iran's share in this field is 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate. The Iranian side asserts that the field produces over 700 million cubic meters of gas daily.

Furthermore, the South Pars gas field in Iran comprises 24 phases. Iran started production in this field in 2002. Iran is currently producing 700 million cubic meters of gas per day from these phases, according to reports. Iran has reportedly invested an estimated $90 billion in this field. Iran owns about 33 percent of the gas field's potential production. Iran has developed the fields on its side, while foreign companies have primarily developed the fields on the Qatari side.

Iran is considered the world's second-largest gas reserve country, with about 34 trillion cubic meters of gas reserves. Presently, 22 gas fields are operating in Iran.
