Iran tallies its mining industry exports and imports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 29. Iran's mining industry exports in the ten months of the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through January 19, 2025) reached a value of $9.9 billion, totaling around 46.7 million tons.

Data obtained by Trend from Iran's Organization for the Development and Renovation of Mining and Mining Industries (IMIDRO) indicates that this marks a 1 percent increase in export value and a 1 percent decrease in weight compared to the same period last year.

For comparison, mining exports in the same period of the previous Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through January 20, 2024) were valued at $9.83 billion, with a weight of around 47 million tons.

In terms of imports, Iran brought in 3.28 million tons of mining industry products worth $8.82 billion. This represents a 76 percent increase in value compared to the previous year, although the weight of imports decreased by 19 percent. During the same period last year, Iran had imported 4 million tons of mining products valued at $5 billion.

Additionally, it was noted that Iran's non-oil export value for the first 10 months of the current Iranian year reached $47.8 billion, reflecting an 18 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

IMIDRO is a prominent state-owned holding corporation engaged in Iran's mining sector. IMIDRO comprises 8 principal firms and 55 operational subsidiaries engaged in the sectors of steel, aluminum, copper, cement, and mineral extraction. It has ascended to the 20th position among global steel producers, generating 18 million tonnes of crude steel in 2022.
