Before the current government came to power (August 2024), 35 percent of the physical work on the repair of this equipment was completed. Now, this equipment has been repaired and will be installed at the site within the next month, after the logistics and support capabilities of the production company are created.
South Pars gas field (North Dome in Qatar) is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. It is reported that the gas reserves in this field are 51 trillion cubic meters, of which 36 trillion cubic meters can be produced. Iran's share in this field is 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate.
Iran has 24 phases in the South Pars gas field. It is reported that Iran is currently producing 700 million cubic meters of gas from these phases daily. It is estimated that Iran has spent an astounding $90 billion on the field. It is noted that about 33 percent of the gas that can be produced from the gas field belongs to Iran. On the Iranian side, the gas fields have been developed by Iran, while on the Qatari side, they have been exploited mainly by foreign companies.
The French company Total and the Chinese company CNPCI stopped working on phase 11 of the South Pars gas field following US sanctions against Iran. Therefore, the activities in this phase are fully entrusted to the Iranian Petropars company.
