Anders Fogh Rasmussen has strong Danish loyalties having held the post of Prime Minister for three terms, but his son on the other hand has decided to give up his citizenship, The Copenhafen Post reported.

Henrik Fogh Rasmussen has lived in the US since his college years and married American Kristina Marie Smith in 2004.

As Denmark does not allow dual nationality, Rasmussen junior decided to switch allegiance and has become a US citizen.

'One has to choose and I have sworn my loyalty to the US. It was the greatest moment when I swore the oath. I love this country,' Henrik Fogh Rasmussen told public broadcaster DR.

He currently works as a communications consultant in Springfield, Illinois and his decision has been backed by his family.

'It's kind of a special feeling. But we are happy when our children achieve their dreams,' said his father, Nato secretary general Anders Fogh Rasmussen.
