The dam on the eastern shore of the Lake Sarisu collapsed in several areas and the water flooded the territory, the Azerbaijani Emergency Situations Ministry reported May 24.

The ministry and the relevant structures implement the necessary measures to remedy the situation, the report said.

The Lake Sarisu located on the territory of the Sabirabad, Saatli and Imishli region.

In recent weeks, floods occurred in 40 districts of Azerbaijan due to the rise of the Kur River. As a result of the disaster, about 20,000 houses were flooded, more than 300 were destroyed, 2,000 became unsafe and 50,000 hectares of cultivated land were left under water.
