Opportunities for forming a new electoral bloc in the parliamentary elections have not yet been exhausted, Citizens and Development Party Chairman Ali Aliyev said. The party is a member of the Azadliq bloc.
"Despite the small number of parties ready to join the bloc created by us, joint participation in the election is also possible," he told Trend today.
Parliamentary elections will be held in Azerbaijan in fall 2010. Previous elections were held in November 2005. The elections are held according to the majority system in Azerbaijan's 125 constituencies.
Currently, each party represented in the block names its deputy candidates.
"We probably will cooperate with other units, although their parties did not join us," he said.
According to the party head, the opposition voting bloc can cooperate to address issues such as improving the law on the freedom of assembly and electoral legislation in the run up to the elections.
"We can consult on forming a single list of candidates even in the case of participation in the elections in the various blocs," he added.
The Azadliq bloc was established on the eve of the parliamentary elections in 2005 by the Azerbaijani Popular Front Party, Liberal, Democratic Party of Azerbaijan, and Musavat. After the elections in 2005, the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan and Musavat left the bloc. The Citizens and Development Party later joined the bloc.
