Georgia, Tbilisi, March 28 / Trend N. Kirtskhalia /

Our Georgia - Free Democrats leader Irakli Alasania met with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Philip Gordon at an international security conference in Brussels. The theme of the meeting was to create a favorable sphere for holding free elections in Georgia, the party told Trend.

Alasania said the revolutionary processes in different countries are stipulated by an unfair electoral environment. "The future elections in Georgia are of great importance," Gordon said. "It is important for the government to be actively included in multiparty elections. We think the Constitution and the Electoral Code must be approved."

He said transparency is a precondition for creating democratic elections, as well as a consensus between the government and the opposition.

The U.S. is waiting for an agreement between the government and the opposition, he said.

"If this does not happen, the elections will not be considered democratic domestically or abroad," he said.
