BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 25. Enilive's bio throughput in 1Q2024 surged to 352 ktonnes, marking a strong rise of 159 percent year-on-year (136 ktonnes in 1Q2023), Trend reports.
According to Eni, this substantial increase was attributed to contributions from the Chalmette biorefinery, along with heightened processing volumes at the Gela and Venice biorefineries. Improved plant availability in Gela and ongoing optimization efforts with Ecofining in Venice further fueled this growth.
Meanwhile, Enilive's retail sales in Europe during the same period reached 1.78 mmtonnes, of which Italy accounted for 1.26 mmtonnes. This also marked a modest 2-percent year-on-year increase (1.75 mmtonnes in 1Q2023).
This rise was primarily driven by heightened gasoline sales, spurred by growing consumer demand, the company explained. However, sales in Italy remained relatively stagnant.
In terms of wholesale figures, Enilive saw a notable uptick in 1Q2024 in Europe, with sales reaching 1.88 mmtonnes, marking a 3-percent increase compared to the corresponding period in 2023 (1.83 mmtonnes). This growth was largely fueled by heightened jet fuel sales, particularly prominent in Italy, Eni noted.
