ASTANA, Kazakhstan, December 27. Passenger railcar production will begin at the Stadler Kazakhstan factory in the second quarter of 2025, following an offtake arrangement with Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (Kazakhstan Railways) for the guaranteed purchase of 537 units by 2030, totaling $2.3 billion, Trend reports.
Kazakhstan's Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development, Kanat Sharlapaev, visited the Stadler Kazakhstan facility. The production site is located in the industrial park of the city of Astana. The total area of the premises exceeds 31,000 square meters, with an annual production capacity of more than 100 passenger cars.
During the visit, the minister was informed that the strategic partner of Stadler Kazakhstan is the national carrier of the Republic of Kazakhstan, "Passenger Transport". This is a subsidiary of Kazakhstan Railways, with which a contract was signed for the supply of modern, comfortable, next-generation passenger railcars. With a service life of 40 years, these railcars can operate at speeds of up to 160 km/h.
The produced cars will comply with the technical regulations of the EAEU (Eurasian Economic Union) and will incorporate the latest engineering advances in railcar manufacturing. The plant has recently grown into a large enterprise, employing over 300 people.
To note, Stadler Kazakhstan is a subsidiary of Stadler Rail Group and is a leading producer of passenger cars for Kazakhstan's railways.
