BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 10. Global oil consumption is expected to rise by 0.9 million barrels per day (b/d) in 2025 and by 1.0 million b/d in 2026, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), Trend reports.
However, the agency notes that oil demand is still expected to remain below pre-pandemic levels, with ongoing uncertainty around global demand growth, particularly due to recently announced trade policies.
The EIA has revised its demand growth forecast down slightly, particularly for Asia, where U.S. tariffs have added complexity to the outlook. Despite this, non-OECD Asia remains the primary driver of global oil demand.
India is forecast to see the largest increase in consumption, with an additional 0.3 million b/d of liquid fuels expected in both 2025 and 2026, driven by rising transportation fuel demand.
Meanwhile, China’s consumption is expected to grow by 0.2 million b/d annually in 2025 and 2026, following a more moderate increase of 0.1 million b/d in 2024. This growth is attributed to economic stimulus measures that are boosting demand.
