TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, May 2. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the new furniture industrial zone in Khonka district during his Khorezm trip, Trend reports, citing the Uzbek president’s office.
Following the inauguration of the furniture industrial zone, it is expected that the volume of exports will exceed $3 million.
This new industrial zone, which follows a decree issued by the President on June 21, 2021, aims to foster the growth of the furniture industry in areas with high potential. Khonka district, historically known for its skilled furniture artisans, has long been a hub for furniture production. Over 140 entrepreneurs operate in the region, with small workshops spread across more than 500 households. Until recently, many of these artisans worked in cramped, suboptimal conditions.
To address this, 10 hectares of land were allocated to create the small industrial zone, which operates on a cluster model, housing furniture production facilities along with exhibition and trade areas.
The enterprises have equipped themselves with modern machinery sourced from Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Turkey, and China. The combined production capacity is expected to generate annual output worth 108 billion soums, producing furniture for homes, offices, hotels, restaurants, and social facilities.
Meanwhile, a significant feature of the zone is its commitment to energy efficiency, with solar panels installed at all enterprises to reduce energy consumption.
Overall, over 300 enterprises in Khorezm are engaged in furniture production, with more than 200 entrepreneurs working independently and over 1,300 people employed in the sector.
