ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 5. Four large petrochemical projects will be implemented in the Atyrau region of Kazakhstan, said Atyrau Region Akim (Governor) Serik Shapkenov during a government meeting, Trend reports.
He noted that four major petrochemical projects are being implemented in the special economic zone of Atyrau region, including:
The KPI plant, which has produced 97.800 tons of polypropylene in three months. Full capacity of 500,000 tons is expected to be reached by the end of the year.
The Silleno polyethylene production plant. Construction work has already begun, and the plant is scheduled to start operations in 2029.
The butadiene and its derivatives production plant, in partnership with Tatneft. Construction is planned to start in the second half of this year.
The terephthalic acid and polyethylene terephthalate production plant. A search for a strategic partner is currently underway.
"In total, the chemical industry's output in the region for the first three months amounted to 47.7 billion tenge (approximately $90.5 million), which is 17.7 percent more compared to the same period last year," noted Serik Shapkenov.
Today, under the chairmanship of Kazakhstan's Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, a government meeting is taking place. The agenda of the meeting includes the development of the chemical and petrochemical industry in the country.
