ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 15. A farm for breeding 100 tons of sturgeon fish per year and producing caviar will open in Kazakhstan's Mangystau region, Trend reports via the press service of the regional akimat (local administrative office).
"In June of this year, the construction of the RED PEARL fish farm for breeding sturgeon fish and producing caviar will begin near the village of Kyzyl-ozen in the Tupkaragan district of the Mangystau region. The complex, implemented with the participation of Swiss investors, is designed to breed up to 100 tons of sturgeon fish and produce 100 tons of caviar annually," the statement says.
The comprehensive operationalization of the facility is slated for the inaugural quarter of 2026. The total project cost is 5.6 billion tenge (approximately $11.2 million).
Additionally, a project for breeding sea trout in the Kazakhstan sector of the Caspian Sea in cages with a capacity of up to 5,000 tons per year is being implemented in the region. In the first phase, i.e., in 2025–2026, 300 tons of product will be produced, with plans to increase this figure to 1,600 tons in 2026–2027 and to 5,000 tons in 2029–2030.
Trout breeding operations are presently utilizing cage systems sourced from Norway. The initiation of the project is slated for September 2025.
