ASTANA, Kazakhstan, June 24. Kazakhstan intends to put the modernized Temir Baba automobile checkpoint on the border with Turkmenistan into operation by the end of 2025, Trend reports.
The announcement was made by Deputy Chairman of the State Revenue Committee of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Finance, Bakytzhan Slyamov, at a recent press conference held by the Central Communications Service under the President of Kazakhstan.
The checkpoint upgrade is part of a national project initiated in 2018 to boost the country’s transit potential, focusing on border points with China, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. The project emphasizes speed, safety, efficiency, and comfort.
According to Slyamov, the checkpoints are equipped with modern technologies and reconstructed to handle growing cargo and passenger traffic. So far, modernization work has been completed at Kaplanbek, Atameken, Kolzhat, and Alakol checkpoints. The remaining facilities, including Kazygurt, Tazhen, Temir Baba, Maykapchagay, and Bakhty, are scheduled to be launched by the end of 2025.
Separately, Turkmenistan is considering the resumption of direct flights between Ashgabat and Almaty as early as next year.
