TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, August 22. Uzbekistan reduced its natural gas imports by 30.6 percent from January through July 2025.
The data obtained by Trend from the country's National Statistics Committee indicates that during the mentioned period the country purchased gas worth $734 million, primarily from Russia and Turkmenistan. At the same time, Uzbekistan’s natural gas exports rose by 38.2 percent to $438.6 million, with most shipments going to China.
In recent years, Uzbekistan has been pursuing a consistent policy to strengthen energy independence and optimize its export-import operations. The country's strategy is aimed at modernizing gas infrastructure, introducing energy-efficient technologies, and expanding domestic production in order to meet growing domestic demand. These measures allow Tashkent not only to reduce its dependence on imports, but also to increase export volumes, strengthening its position in key markets, particularly in China.
