Azerbaijani economy has reached economic growth in 9.3 percent in 2009, Azerbaijani Minister of Economic Development Shahin Mustafayev said at the Georgian-Azerbaijani business forum in Tbilisi today.
"This was the result of overcoming the consequences of the global crisis. We look forward to increase the rate of economic growth this year, owing to economic recovery," minister said.
Mustafayev said that about 2.5 million citizens were able to overcome the brink of poverty in Azerbaijan.
"Increase in population's income by 10 percent contributed to it. These figures are reflected in reports by international organizations such as the achievement of macroeconomic stability. Azerbaijan ranked 51 on this index among 143 world countries last year. It was a leading country in the CIS," minister said.
Mustafayev said that Azerbaijan continues to work towards improving the business climate. There is every reason to expect continued economic growth.
