Uzbekistan: Weighted average interest rate on foreign currency loans rises

The weighted average interest rate on Uzbek bank loans in foreign currency increased in January-December 2018 by 0.5 percentage points or 10.9 percent and amounted to 6.1 percent per annum by the end of the year, Trend reports with reference to NUZ.uz.

Interest rates on short-term loans in foreign currency increased from the beginning of the year by 2 percentage points or by 34.5 percent to 7.8 percent per annum; for long-term loans by 0.4 percentage points or by 9.3 percent to 5.9 percent per annum.

Rates of loans in foreign currency issued for up to 60 days decreased by 2.1 percentage points to 0.9 percent per annum; from 2 to 3 months increased by 3.5 percentage points to 11.5 percent per annum; from 3 to 6 months by 10.5 percentage points to 13.6 percent per annum; from 6 to 12 months by 1.8 percentage points to 8 percent per annum.

Loan rates from 1 to 2 years increased by 0.2 percentage points to 8.5 percent per annum, from 2 to 3 years decreased by 0.8 percentage points to 9.4 percent per annum, from 3 to 4 years by 0.2 percentage points to 8 percent per annum.

The total loan portfolio of Uzbek banks in foreign currency increased in January-December 2018 by 32.3 percent to $11.2 billion and its share in the total bank loans decreased from 62.3 to 55.9 percent.
