Azerbaijani banks and NBCOs build up loan portfolio

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 28. The loan portfolio of banks and non-bank credit organizations (NBCOs) of Azerbaijan from January through July 2024 amounted to 27.2 billion manat ($16 billion), which is 13.7 percent more than the figure at the end of 2023, Trend reports.

According to the data of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), the volume of overdue loans at the end of July amounted to 453.7 million manat ($266.8 million) (3.6 percent growth), and the share of all loans is 1.7 percent.

The volume of loans issued in national currency is 22.6 billion manat (16 percent growth), and in foreign currency - 4.6 billion manat ($2.7 billion) (3.6 percent growth). Meanwhile, loans in foreign currency since the beginning of the year continue the downward trend and decreased by 55.2 million manat ($32.4 million) in July.

During the reporting period, state banks issued loans worth 6.6 billion manat ($3.8 billion) (20.7 percent growth), private banks - 19 billion manat ($11.1 billion) (7.8 percent growth), and NBCO - 1.5 billion manat ($882 million) (twofold growth).

The main share (57.3 percent) in the structure of credit investments of banks and NBCOs at the end of July 2024 was loaned to households, with the volume increasing by 11.6 percent to 15.6 billion manat ($9.1 billion) during the reporting period.

The remaining amount was distributed to other sectors of the economy: trade and services sector - 3.8 billion manat ($2.2 billion) (14.2 percent of all loans), extractive industry and electricity, gas, and water - 825.6 million manat ($485.6 million) (three percent), agriculture/forestry and fisheries - 463.9 million manat ($272.8 million) (1.7 percent), construction - 1.1 billion manat ($647 million) (4.4 percent), industry and manufacturing sector - 2.1 billion manat ($1.2 billion) (7.8 percent), transportation and communication - 1.7 billion manat ($1 billion) (6.2 percent), real estate operations including mortgage - 4 billion manat ($2.3 billion) (14.8 percent), the rest - other sectors.
