Kazakhstan, Astana, Aug. 23 /Trend, A.Maratov/
The diplomatic reception on the occasion of the Armed Forces Day of Turkey, scheduled for Aug. 31 in the capital of Kazakhstan, has been cancelled, a source in the Turkish Embassy in Astana told Trend.
"The leadership of Turkish Armed Forces has decided to cancel the reception on the occasion of Victory Day and Armed Forces Day of Turkey (both in Turkey and in diplomatic missions abroad) in connection with numerous victims among military personnel as a result of terrorist attacks," said the Turkish Embassy.
Air strikes to PKK positions were resumed after attacks of militants in southeast Turkey on Aug.17, killing nine Turkish servicemen.
These are Turkey's first attacks on northern Iraq in over a year.
The conflict between Turkey and the PKK has lasted for over 25 years, claiming over 40,000 lives. The PKK is recognized as a terrorist organization by both the UN and the EU.
PKK militants previously threatened the Turkish authorities with intensified armed conflict if concrete steps are not taken to address the long-term Kurdish problem.
