DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, October 10. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) anticipates Tajikistan's current account deficit to reach 3.7 percent of GDP in 2023, which is an increase from the previous IMF forecast of 1.9 percent in April 2023, Trend reports.
The projection for 2024 remains at a deficit of 2.4 percent, consistent with the April estimate. Looking ahead to 2028, the April prediction of a 2.9 percent deficit was revised in October to 3.4 percent.
Among other Central Asian countries, Kyrgyzstan is expected to face a deficit of 20 percent, while Uzbekistan's deficit is projected at 4.3 percent. Kazakhstan is forecast to have a deficit of 1.5 percent, while Turkmenistan is expected to have a surplus of 3.4 percent.
In the same outlook, the IMF forecasts Tajikistan's GDP rate to reach 6.5 percent in 2023, 5 percent in 2024, and 4.5 percent in 2028.
Meanwhile, the World Bank (WB) offers slightly different estimates, predicting Tajikistan's current account deficit to be around 2.4 percent of GDP in 2023.
WB foresees a modest uptick in current account balance to 2.9 percent in 2024 and a further increase to 3.1 percent in 2025.
