Iran has completed drilling and testing the first well in the South Pars gas field's phase 18, Shana news reported.

Tests show high gas production capacity and good performance in the area comprising South Pars' phase 17 and 18, the National Iranian Drilling Co. (NIDC) drilling project manager at Alireza Laiji told Shana.

The drilling of 22 oil wells in South Pars' phase 17 and 18 started in 2010 (Iran's solar year begins in March) and is moving toward completion, Mr. Laiji said.

Iran and Qatar have shares in the South Pars gas field. The Iranian share which is divided into 29 phases, accounts for about 14 trillion cubic metres of gas, or about eight per cent of the total world reserves and more than 18 billion barrels of liquefied natural gas resources.
