BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 17. Some three new irradiation centers will be put into operation in Iran during the 5th month of Iran (from July 22 through August 21, 2024), Iran's Vice President and Chairman of the Atomic Energy Organization Mohammad Eslami told reporters on July 17 following a cabinet meeting in Tehran, Trend reports.
According to him, three irradiation centers have been put into operation in the country over the last three months.
Eslami noted that steps have been taken in recent years towards the positive impact of the nuclear industry on the lives of people in the country, and the process is ongoing.
“The state is inviting the private sector and parties involved in food production to invest in irradiation. The aim is to improve both food safety and production,” he said.
Meanwhile, Iran claims that it is its natural right to use its nuclear program for peaceful purposes.
To note, the chairman of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Mohammad Eslami, stated that the country produces 130 million tons of agricultural products a year. Its 40 million tons—30 percent—became waste. The establishment of irradiation centers will help prevent agricultural products from becoming waste.
