TEHRAN, Iran, Sept.25

Trend:

Iran's membership in Shanghai Cooperation Organization is a positive move, but it won't solve the country's main trade problems, said the head of the Iranian Export Confederation Mohammad Lahouti, Trend report citing ISNA.

Lahouti indicated that Iran's permanent membership could have a key role based on the country's transit routes including the North-South Transportation Corridor that could supply needs of the other member countries.

"China is one of economic powers that is also an important economic partner for Iran, while other member countries have their own special economic capacities," he explained.

He noted that Iran is not a member of the World Trade Organization so the cost of trade is more expensive, therefore membership in these pacts would lead to discount in trade or preferential tariff for Iran.

"So there would be possibility for Iran to supply needs of member countries via Shangahi Cooperation Organization," said Lahouti.
