BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 4. The amount of money to be paid for the wheat purchased in Iran since April 5 is 370 trillion rials (about $590 million), Ataollah Hashemi, head of the National Wheat Farmers Foundation of Iran, told reporters, Trend reports.
He said that during the mentioned period, 2.5 million tons of wheat worth 520 trillion rials (about $829 million) were purchased from farmers in Iran on a guaranteed basis, while 150 trillion rials (about $239 million) of this money was paid to farmers.
Hashemi said that one kg of common wheat is purchased from farmers in the country for 205 thousand rials (about $0.32), and 1 kg of durum wheat for 210,000 rials (about $0.33). The price increase was proposed in the agricultural commission of the Iranian parliament, and no decision has been made on this issue yet.
Overall, 6.39 million hectares of wheat have been sown in Iran this year, with 4.22 million hectares accounting for fallow lands and 2.17 million hectares -conventionally sown lands.
