Tbilisi is hosting the International Conference on 'Security in South Caucasus' organised by the Georgian and British Foreign Ministries on March 21-22. It is dedicated to promoting security in the South Caucasus.

Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze told Trend today that the prospects for resolving the conflicts in South Caucasus will be discussed over the next two days.

"This is a very important meeting, where experts, diplomats and representatives of the executive and legislative branches, will be able to express their opinions and to fix their own approaches to solve the conflicts," the minister said. "Afterwards, certain recommendations to diffuse the conflicts that create additional tension in our region will be developed."

The conference delegates will discuss the role of international organisations in promoting energy security and strengthening the democratic processes in the region.

The British ambassador to Georgia Judith Gough said the holding of a conference in this format gives a unique opportunity to plan future strategies to resolve existing problems in the region and its challenges.

Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze also delivered a speech where he spoke about the importance of the conference and the role of the international community in solving regional problems.

Representatives of diplomatic corps accredited to Georgia, international organisations, Georgian state agencies and delegations of Azerbaijani and Armenian foreign ministries are all taking part in the conference.

The Tbilisi conference is being held under the auspices of the non-profit agency of the British Foreign Ministry Wilton Park. The Agency which began operating in 1946 organises high level conferences and contributes to the consideration of important issues among ministers, deputies, businessmen, experts and scholars.

This is the second conference organised by Wilton Park in Georgia. The regional security, energy and economic resources and democratic processes are being considered there.
