TBILISI, Georgia, July 7. An auction for the introduction of fifth-generation 5G mobile communications has been announced in Georgia, Trend reports.

5G technology represents a new generation of wireless Internet, which significantly increases data transfer speeds and reduces latency. It will bring new opportunities for various sectors such as healthcare, education, business, agriculture, infrastructure and others. It contributes to the strengthening of the country's economy.

According to the National Communications Commission of Georgia, the auction will be held for 24 lots, including the frequency ranges 700, 3400-3700 and 2600 megahertz, as well as 800 and 1800 megahertz.

Applications for participation in the auction will be accepted from July 12 from 9:00 (GMT+4) to July 28, 17:00 (GMT+4).

When deploying 5G networks, operators must comply with the technical standards established by the EU0 to ensure high quality and security of the network. Companies that have received a 5G license will be required to provide access to their network to mobile virtual network operators through negotiations on fair and non-discriminatory terms.

Moreover, the Commission decided to hold one lot without the obligation to allow a mobile virtual network operator. Four auctions were announced for combined abstract lots with different coverage obligations and prices. They include different frequency spectrum ranges and require different coverage of localities.

Initial contributions for these lots amount to 6.2 million lari ($2.3 million), 2.5 million lari ($963,480), 2.5 million lari ($999,630) and 2.6 million lari ($1 million), respectively.

Operators who have received a 5G license will be required to gradually cover densely populated areas, tourist areas, ports, airports, railways and major highways with a network for three to seven years. The 2600 and 3600 megahertz frequencies provide high internet speeds in large cities, while the 700 and 800 megahertz frequencies will be used to cover less populated areas.

In addition to the combined lots, another 20 separate lots were announced at the auction. Lot prices will vary depending on the frequency spectrum range and line width.
