The local leader of the Labor Party in Mexico's southern Guerrero state was killed on Sunday by a drive-by shooting, official sources said.

Rey Hernandez was shot dead at 10:00 a.m. local time (1600 GMT) on Sunday outside his house in Ometepec, Guerrero, when he was leaving home. Hernandez was shot at least seven times, the Public Security Direction and Civil Protection of Guerrero said.

The unidentified killers were traveling in a grey car without a license, Xinhua reported. They shot Hernandez and fled, authorities said.

Ballistic experts found at least 20 shells of AK-47 rifles at the scene, frequently used by organized criminal groups in the country.

Hernandez was a member of the party's State Coordination Commission in Guerrero.
