A motion, which extends the term of Turkish government's authority on staging cross-border operations in the north of Iraq to combat terrorism, was sent to Turkish Parliament Monday, Anadolu Agency reported.
Following the Council of Ministers meeting on Monday, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister & government spokesman Bulent Arinc told reporters that the motion, which extended the period of government's authority to stage cross-border land operations in the north of Iraq and adjacent regions within the scope of counter-terrorism one more year, was signed and sent to Parliament for approval.
Arinc recalled that the government received an authority last year to stage cross-border land operations in the north of Iraq and adjacent regions, and said that the term of this authority would end on October 17.
He expressed hope that the motion would be one of the top agenda items of the Turkish Parliament in its new legislative term which would begin on October 1.
Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which is recognized as a terrorist group by much of the international community, launches its attacks against Turkey from Iraq's Qandil Mountains in the areas under the control of Kurdistan Regional Government.
Turkey resumed attacks on PKK after militants' attack in Southeastern Turkey on the evening of August 17, in which nine servicemen were killed.
