Turkey’s trade unions have been banned from holding May Day rally at Taksim Square in Istanbul, Trend reports with reference to Turkish media.
On April 25, the trade unions appealed to the governorship of Istanbul with regard to a march to be conducted on the International Workers’ Day celebrated on May 1.
According to the media reports, the trade unions are allowed to hold the march in the Bakirkoy and Maltepe districts of Istanbul.
In 2010, the Turkish authorities allowed May Day rally to be held at Taksim Square, but in 2013 the ban was imposed again.
