Azerbaijan, Baku, April 3 / Trend, H.Veliyev /
The Republican Seismic Survey Center (RSSC) of Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences discussed details of a project of conducting seismic tomography and study of depth of earthquake center in the territory of Azerbaijan, RSSC said on Tuesday.
The issue was considered yesterday in the RSSC with the participation of U.S. and Georgian scientists, who got thoroughly acquainted with the principles of operation of the RSSC seismic stations.
Implementation of the joint project is scheduled by late 2012. The Center plans to install GPS-stations for the study of horizontal crust movements, the RSSC told Trend earlier.
The center plans to install ten stations of global positioning system by late 2012, work on the installation of which are already being conducted by specialists of Japan, USA and Georgia.
The total number GPS-stations in the country will be 25, which will be incorporated into the overall system of space geodesy with satellite communication reception. Studies of horizontal crustal movements will begin later this year. GPS-stations will be located in almost all the seismic stations of the center.
The GPS-stations will determine the displacement of the Earth's crust caused by earthquakes in the region, and measure slow and weak oscillations of the crust with high precision.
