PremiumOpposition not Support Ex-Speaker’s Proposal on Unification

Azerbaijan, Baku, 27 February / Trend corr. G.Jabiyev / The Azerbaijani opposition leaders refused from negotiations on joint participation in the upcoming presidential elections. The presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan on 15 October 2008.

"Opposition leaders state different reasons not to unite to participate in the elections. Some representatives of opposition parties postpone discussions on this issue," Zamina Dunyamaliyeva, the advisor of Rasul Guliyev, Ex-Speaker and leader of Open Society Party, stated to Trend .

Recently, Dunyamaliyeva visited the US, and met with Guliyev. Ex-Speaker commissioned the advisor to hold negotiations to unite opposition.

Dunyamaliyeva said that they hoped for oncoming steps from opposition. "We want to mention about the significance of unification of opposition parties. They must understand that sticking to such policy they will lose more than Guliyev," she added.

Open Society was founded in April 2007. Guliyev is the leader of the party and has been living in emigration in the US. Guliyev was the chairman of Democratic Party to February 2007.
