Georgia, Tbilisi, Apr. 1 / Trend J.Babayeva /
Representatives of the Congress of Azerbaijanis in Georgia (CAG) will soon meet with the candidates for mayor of Tbilisi, to make the right choice.
The congress intends to familiarize with the candidate's plans and programs and the measures they would take to address the problems of Azerbaijanis living in Georgia, if the candidate wins the election, CAG chairman Ali Babayev told Trend today.
He said the problems of Azerbaijanis living in Georgia mostly relate to the fact that they are not allowed to restore the house-museum of Nariman Narimanov and to build a second mosque, which was destroyed in 1952. Moreover, no Azerbaijani represented in the mayor's office and the local authorities and the cultural and historical monuments are not registered by the state.
"After meetings with the candidates, the congress will determine the candidate, whom it will support the elections," he added.
According to him, during the election campaign of all elections, the candidates promise a solution for the accumulated problems of Azerbaijanis of Georgia. After winning the election they forget their promises.
The congress is also expected to meet with party leaders, who will participate in the elections to local authorities throughout Georgia, he said. "After these meetings, the Congress will decide, in the lists of which parties Azerbaijanis will submit their nominations," Babayev said.
Georgia scheduled the local elections to representative bodies - Sakrebulo and the mayor of Tbilisi for May 30.
