The Baku World Religious Leaders Summit will give a new impetus to the development of interconfessional and intercultural relations in the interest of mankind and the elimination of global challenges such as terrorism, religious fanaticism, extremism and separatism, Caucasus Muslims Organization (CMO) head and CIS Interreligious Council Co-Chair Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade said at the summit.
"Violations of human rights and the spread of narcotics and other psychotropic drugs, as well as control over space, nuclear terrorism and the use of weapons of mass destruction, are serious concerns to us all," Pashazade said.
He also expressed concern about terrorist acts committed in different parts of the world.
"None of the religions sent by the God justify terror, violence and aggression. Those who use religious slogans to kill innocent civilians and commit terrorist acts are committing great sins before our One Creator. Do not forget that religions view taking a human life as an attack against all of humanity," Pashazade said.
He called on religious leaders to take a unified stand against extremist, radical and separatist forces opposed to territorial integrity and the security of states.
"Twenty percent of Azerbaijan's territory has been under occupation for more than 20 years. We are making every effort to resolve the military conflict with Armenia peacefully. I believe today the problem of Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as all the conflicts in the Caucasus region, can be resolved through just peace while observing territorial integrity and principles of the international law," Pashazade said.
The Baku World Religious Leaders Summit is being attended by 250 representatives of various confessions from 35 countries worldwide.
