EU, Kazakhstan set to adopt new roadmap for raw materials cooperation

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 16. Kazakhstan and the EU have discussed the adoption of a new roadmap for raw materials cooperation, Trend reports.

The Cooperation Council between the European Union (EU) and Kazakhstan convened for its twenty-first meeting on October 14 in Luxembourg, where both parties reaffirmed their commitment to deepening and broadening their collaboration under the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (EPCA).

According to the European Council, during the meeting, both parties highlighted their ongoing cooperation in the critical raw materials sector, emphasizing the successful implementation of the current joint roadmap. They expressed optimism about adopting a new and ambitious roadmap for 2025-2027, aimed at further enhancing their partnership.

Kazakhstan's active participation in the upcoming EU Raw Materials Week in November 2023 was noted as a significant step in bolstering business-to-business contacts within this vital sector. The EU also expressed appreciation for Kazakhstan's recent accession to the Mineral Security Partnership, marking a further alignment of interests.

Additionally, the EU acknowledged Kazakhstan's crucial role in ensuring energy security for the region and voiced its support for the development of renewable energy sources in the country. The EU praised Kazakhstan's commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2060 and its involvement in the Global Methane Pledge.

Meanwhile, the meeting was chaired by Peter Szijjártó, Hungary's Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, representing EU High Representative Josep Borrell. The Kazakh delegation was led by Murat Nurtleu, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, emphasizing the importance of ongoing dialogue and collaboration between the two parties.
