BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 18. In the first two months of this year, a whopping 440,600 tons of cargo, ringing in at a cool $438.4 million, sailed through the waters of Azerbaijan by sea transport.
Data obtained by Trend from the State Customs Committee indicates that
the valuation of maritime logistics escalated by 73.3 percent
($185.5 million) while the throughput surged by 53.8 percent
(154,100 tons) relative to the corresponding timeframe in 2024.
Throughout the designated reporting interval, Azerbaijan executed
maritime imports totaling $431 million, encompassing 420,300 tons
of cargo. This reflects a substantial 90.9 percent increase in
monetary value, amounting to an additional $205.2 million,
alongside a significant 51.5 percent escalation in volume, equating
to 143,000 tons, when juxtaposed with the previous year.
Additionally, in the same period, Azerbaijan exported $7.3 million worth of 20,300 tons of cargo by sea, which is a decrease of $19.8 million (72.9 percent) in value, but a 2.2-fold rise in volume (11,100 tons) compared to the same period last year.
To note, from January through February of this year, various modes of transport handled $8.9 billion worth of 10.6 million tons of cargo, marking a 23.2 percent rise in value ($1.7 billion) and a 6.8 percent growth in volume (678,700 tons) compared to the same period in 2024.
