ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 3. Kazakhstan's Minister of Transport Marat Karabaev inspected the preparations for the construction of the new "Center-West" highway, Trend reports.
In the Kostanay region of Kazakhstan, where the minister
visited, design and planning documentation for the large-scale
project is being developed, with the new highway set to connect
Astana to the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
"The new 'Center-West' route will address transportation
accessibility issues for remote areas in Akmola, Kostanay, and
Aktobe regions. The connectivity of the city of Arkalyk, the
Amangeldy, Zhankeldy districts of Kostanay region, the Yegindikol
and Zharkain districts of Akmola region, as well as the Irgiz
district of Aktobe region with the capital will improve. This will
significantly impact the quality of life for local residents,"
noted the ministry.
The distance and travel time will be reduced. Currently, the route from Astana to the western regions is 1,438 kilometers. The new route will shorten this path to 865 kilometers, reducing the existing route by more than 560 kilometers.
The transportation network will cover 13 settlements with a population of 70,000 people. The road will consist of two lanes, each 8 meters wide. The traffic intensity is expected to be 3,000 vehicles per day.
