Azerbaijan is considered a major destination for investment and business development for the developers of the Iranian Araz free economic zone (FEZ), FEZ Araz head Abbas Ranjbar said at a meeting with Azerbaijani Consulate in Tabriz Ali Alizade.

"Further development of Iran-Azerbaijan economic and investment relations will benefit both countries," he said. "We are ready to create an investment environment for manufacturers and businessmen from Azerbaijan and, in particular, the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, to help them take part in the FEZ."

Ranjbar said that the necessary infrastructure has already been created in the region to carry out productive economic activity.

Speaking about projects and investment opportunities at the FEZ, he noted the importance of building the Julfa-Aslanduz Railway to link Azerbaijan with the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic and Gulf countries.

"I hope the Azerbaijani government will approve the project in the near future," Ranjbar said.

He added that the idea of opening a Tehran-Nakhchivan flight is also under consideration.

"We are not satisfied with the volume of economic and trade relations between Iran and Azerbaijan and we are making efforts to expand these ties between our countries," Ranjbar said.

He underscored that the issue of the Nakhchivan-Tabriz-Mashad Railway will also be considered during the Nakhchivan Supreme Mejlis speaker's upcoming visit to Iran.
