Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan are working to improve the ferry transport between ports on the Baku-Aktau and Baku-Turkmenbashi routes, TRACECA (Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia) national secretary from Azerbaijan Akif Mustafayev told Trend on Tuesday.
He noted that the work to improve the ferry transport between three big ports on Caspian sea are carrying out on level of public agencies, as well as involving in TRACECA's (Europe-Caucasus-Asia).
"It is done based on forecasted prospective growth of goods traffic within TRACECA," Mustafayev said.
According to Mustafayev, improvement of the ferry transport between ports is necessary from the point of view developing industrial powers in Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, with prospective plans of involving goods from China, as well as from increasing goods traffic in the framework of TRACECA after commissioning the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway..
TRACECA is an international transport cooperation program between the EU and its Partner countries in Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia. It has a permanent Secretariat in Baku, Azerbaijan. The cooperation framework covers the areas of maritime transport, aviation, road and rail, transport security, and transport infrastructure.
TRACECA member states are Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Moldova, Romania, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Ukraine, Iran.
