COVID-19 had no significant impact on the relationship between Turkmenistan and Lithuania, MFA of Lithuania told Trend.
The MFA noted that the trade turnover with Turkmenistan this year was intermittent.
“During the first quarter of 2020, the turnover reached 5 million EUR, then dropped to 3,2 million EUR and again went up to 6,7 million EUR,” noted the ministry.
Thus, the ministry clarifies that Lithuania mainly exports food products to Turkmenistan.
“In 2019, Lithuania imported cotton, vehicles and their parts, electrical machinery and equipment and products of the printing industry,” added the MFA.
Furthermore, the ministry says that the country is interested in developing cooperation with Turkmenistan in a number of areas, in particular such as transport, electronics, machinery and equipment, agricultural and food products, chemical industry.
Earlier, Turkmenistan and Lithuania negotiated the creation of a new route connecting the regions of the Caspian, Black and Baltic seas and opening up great prospects for building regional and interregional trade and economic ties in the Eurasian space, and in particular with the Baltic countries.
Also earlier Lithuania expressed its readiness to provide Turkmenistan with its experience in the fields of port management and logistics, maritime transport, and shipbuilding. Among other promising areas of cooperation, the parties mention the energy sector, a number of industrial sectors, including the textile industry, as well as the sphere of modern high technologies.
