SOCAR is completing drilling an exploration well on the onshore field of Jahandar, situated in the north-west of Azerbaijan near the Georgian border, a SOCAR source close to operations said on August 26. Exploration drilling is conducted in order to find oil.
At present, SOCAR is drilling a large offshore exploration well on the prospective platform of Umid. According to prospective plans SOCAR plans to conduct exploration operations at the prospective platforms of Babek, Ashrafi and Karabakh by 2015, a source said. SOCAR will conduct exploration independently.
There are 57 oil and gas fields, 18 offshore and the rest onshore. At present, there are 63,000 employees in SOCAR.
