Uzbekistan, Petronas wants to increase cooperation

Uzbek President Islam Karimov received Malaysian Petronas President Datuk Shamsul Azhar Abbas on Sept.16.

The president noted the steady and gradual development of relations with Petronas.

"We welcome you to Tashkent and express our respect to the Malaysian government and the people of Malaysia, with whom we have friendly relations," he said. "One of our achievements, in our opinion, is our weighted and considered policy in all spheres of the state."

Petronas was founded in 1974. The company holds leading positions in the oil and gas sector. Petronas is conducting exploration works in several investment blocks in the Ustyurt and Surkhandarya regions. Petronas and the South African Sasol are participating in a wide-scale project to create synthetic fuel to manufacture diesel fuel, aviation kerosene and liquefied gas.

Earlier, the company signed a product sharing agreement to develop the Gadjak deposit in the Baysun district of the Surkhandarya region.

During the meeting, the sides also shared their opinions on existing projects and the joint development of perspective programs.

Azhar Abbas expressed his gratitude to the Uzbek leader for the warm welcome, and expressed the company's interest in further developing investment cooperation with Uzbekistan.
