The volume of electricity generated by facilities for renewable sources is 400 million kilowatt-hours in Kazakhstan, Industry and New Technologies Vice Minister Duisenbai Turganov said during a national meeting on energy.
"Today, the facilities for renewable sources generate 400 million kilowatt-hours of electricity," he said. One billion kilowatt-hours, which we planned, will be reached soon."
He recalled that the state program on development of renewable energy sources stipulates that by 2014 one percent of the total electricity generated in the country must fall to renewable energy.
He said that the pace of development in this direction in the country leaves much to be desired.
"This is a new activity for us," he said. I admit that it is difficult to develop it. I would like to introduce a new kind of electricity generation better and faster."
He said that a law has been promulgated, but it has some shortcomings because of lack of experience.
"We found shortcomings and submitted them to the parliament this year to improve and correct deficiencies," he said. "I think that this direction (the generation of renewable energy sources) will improve for investors."
