Australian energy company Transatlantic Exploration Mediterranean International Pty Ltd will conduct oil and gas exploration operations in Dyairbakir province in eastern Turkey, the Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources told Trend on June 28.
The oil and gas exploration operations will be carried out in Bismil and Silvan districts covering 11,500 hectares, the ministry said.
The law allowing oil exploration in forests and national parks entered into force in Turkey in April 2014.
According to the ministry’s report, a total of 56 wells have been drilled since 2014 within the exploration operations of new oil and gas fields in Turkey, of which 54 are onshore fields and two are offshore fields.
