BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 12. Europe, as one of the world's largest gas consumers, needs 'blue fuel' from the Caspian region, including Azerbaijan, director of research in the MENA region of the leading analytical consulting group Rystad Energy, Aditya Saraswat said, Trend reports.
According to the forecasts of this Norwegian expert company, in 2024 Azerbaijan may export 25-25.5 bcm of gas against 23.8 bcm in 2023, of which more than 12 bcm is intended for EU consumers, with about 10 bcm addressed to Italy.
Gas is delivered to the EU via the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC), which has been fully operational (including the European segment - Trans Adriatic Pipeline) since December 2020.
To note, 11.8 bcm of gas was transported to the EU via the SGC in 2023, with almost 10 bcm going to Italy.
Türkiye received 9.5 bcm of gas from Azerbaijan in 2023 (of which 5.6 bcm via TANAP - Türkiye's part of the SGC), while Georgia received 2.5 bcm of gas.
Azerbaijan exported a total of 23.8 bcm of gas in 2023, which is 5.3 percent more than in 2022.
