Azerbaijan sees increase in number of ATMs and POS-terminals

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 29. The number of ATMs in Azerbaijan as of the end of September 2024 amounted to 3,213 units (3.01 percent growth compared to the same period in 2023).

Data obtained by Trend from the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) indicates that there were 1,710 ATMs in Baku (5.49 percent growth) and 1,503 in regions (0.33 percent growth) at the end of September 2024.

The number of POS terminals installed in trade and service facilities in the republic reached a whopping 103,448 units, which is a significant increase of 26.47 percent compared to the same period in 2023. In the meantime, Baku saw the installation of 62,850 POS terminals (16.29 percent growth), while other regions saw the installation of 39,270 POS terminals (48.56 percent growth).

Retail trade objects hosted a total of 100,570, or 97.22 percent, of all POS terminals during the reporting period. The number of POS terminals accepting contactless payments at the end of September amounted to 101,240 units (an increase of 30.27 percent).

To note, a total of 3,112 ATMs were functioning in Azerbaijan at the end of 2023, of which 1,621 were in Baku and 1,491 were in other regions of the country. The number of POS terminals at the end of 2023 amounted to 83,584 units.
