Kazakhstan sees growth in oil and gas production in February

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, March 13. Gas production in Kazakhstan has increased by 1.2 percent and oil production by 0.4 percent in February 2024, said Minister of National Economy of Kazakhstan Nurlan Baybazarov during a government meeting, Trend reports.

"Over the two months of 2024, growth occurred in metallurgy production - by 11 percent, chemical industry - by 25 percent, metal products - by 24 percent, building materials - by 1.4 percent, light industry - by 2.3 percent and furniture - by 23 percent. Mining output increased by 1.9 percent. The production of metal ores increased by 7.2 percent, gas - by 1.2 percent, oil - by 0.4 percent compared to January, and other minerals - by 2.9 percent. Coal production decreased by 4.1 percent," he said.

According to the minister, the construction industry also maintains a high growth rate. "The volume of work in this industry increased by 12.7 percent. Positive dynamics were recorded in 18 regions, with the greatest increase in construction and installation work noted in the Zhetisu region, Kyzylorda, Jambyl, and Pavlodar regions," Baybazarov said.

He pointed out that from January through February of this year, more than 2 million square meters of housing were commissioned in the country, which is 3.4 percent less than the corresponding period last year. A significant decrease in housing commissioning is noted in the Ulytau, Mangystau, and Atyrau regions, as well as in Almaty. The highest rates are observed in the Zhetisu region and Astana city.

"In agriculture, the volume of gross output increased by 1.3 percent. The greatest growth was noted in the Almaty, Pavlodar, West Kazakhstan, and North Kazakhstan regions. In general, for all 7 economic indicators, growth occurred in 7 regions - Kyzylorda, West Kazakhstan, North Kazakhstan, Turkestan, East Kazakhstan, Abay regions, and Astana city," the minister noted.

Furthermore, Kazakhstan's economic growth amounted to 5.1 percent in 2023. Last year, the volume of investments in fixed capital increased by 13.7 percent and amounted to $39.5 billion, while over the first nine months of 2023, $19.7 billion of foreign direct investment was attracted.
