ASTANA, Kazakhstan, March 29. The volume of transactions using payment cards of Kazakh issuers amounted to 12.9 trillion tenge (about $28.7 billion), Trend reports.
Data from Kazakhstan's National Bank shows that the number of transactions was 906.6 million in February 2024.
Compared to the same period in 2023, the number of non-cash transactions increased by 14.6 percent and reached 887.2 million transactions. The volume increased by 19.3 percent, reaching 11 trillion tenge (about $24.5 billion).
At the same time, payment card users carried out 19.4 million cash withdrawal transactions worth 1.9 trillion tenge (about $4.2 billion). There is an increase in the number of cash withdrawal transactions compared to February 2023 by 5.7 percent and an increase in the volume of transactions by 16.3 percent.
Moreover, the main share of non-cash transactions in Kazakhstan was made through the Internet/mobile banking (79.4 percent of the total number of transactions and 88.9 percent of the total volume of non-cash payments and money transfers) and POS terminals (20.5 percent and 10.8 percent of the total number and volume of non-cash payments and money transfers).
In addition, cash dispensing transactions were mainly carried out through ATMs (98.3 percent and 87.1 percent of the total number and volume of cash dispensing transactions, respectively).
As of March 1, 2024, Kazakhstan had 75.5 million payment cards in circulation. Debit cards account for 80.9 percent of all payment cards in the country, while credit cards account for 16.3 percent. Debit cards with credit limits and prepaid cards account for 2.9 percent of the total.
